Описание: How to Extend the Life of Your Bandsaw Blade & Cut Straight

A bandsaw is only as good as its blade. Poor set up or bad habits can cause premature wear, crooked cuts, and wasted material. Follow these simple tips to get the best from your machine:

1. Correct Blade Selection
Match blade width to the job – wider blades track straighter, narrow blades are better for curves (on a vertical bandsaw)
Choose the right TPI (teeth per inch) – coarse teeth (2-3 TPI) for thick sections, finer teeth (10-14 TPI) for thin stock.

Material specific blades – use bi-metal or carbide tipped blades for steel; carbon blades for wood or plastics.

2. Proper Tension & Tracking
Set correct tension: Too loose = wandering cuts, too tight = premature breakage. Adjust until the blade gives a clear “ping” when plucked.
Track centrally: Adjust the tracking knob so the blade runs in the middle of the wheels.

3. Guide & Fence Adjustment
Set guides close: Side guides just off the blade gullets; thrust bearing just behind the blade’s back edge.
Lower the guide post close to the workpiece – this reduces blade deflection.
Check fence alignment: A skewed fence forces the blade to drift.

4. Keep it Clean
Brush or blow away swarf – build up causes wandering and wears teeth.
Check coolant (if fitted) – prevents overheating and tooth damage.

5. Correct Cutting Technique
Feed at a steady rate – forcing stock burns teeth and twists blades.
Don’t twist or lever the material – let the blade do the cutting.
Support large workpieces – use roller tables or stands to reduce strain.

6. Regular Maintenance

Inspect bandwheels and tyres for wear.
Replace dull blades promptly – blunt teeth cause drift and stress.
Lubricate guides and moving parts as recommended.

SAWS UK Tip:
A well set bandsaw with the right blade should cut straight with minimal effort. Proper set up can double blade life and save you money on replacements.
