HMAS Ballarat Conducts a South China Sea Patrol during Regional Presence Deployment 25-4.


The Royal Australian Navy is undertaking its fourth Regional Presence Deployment for 2025. From early September until early December, HMAS Ballarat will sail throughout the Indo-Pacific to conduct training, exercises and other engagements with regional navies. Regional Presence Deployments play a vital role in Australia's security and prosperity by protecting our interests, preserving a rules-based international order, enhancing cooperation and relationships with partners and allies, and developing capability and interoperability.


Defence is conducting Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) First of Class Flight Trials for the Australian Army’s UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopters to develop and confirm procedures required for a new type of aircraft to operate from an Australian Navy Canberra-class LHD. The trial enables Army Aviation to confirm ship helicopter operating limits and embarked procedures, whilst also supporting deck-landing qualifications, and UH60 M embarked operations. 40 UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopters are being delivered to the Australian Army under Project Land 4507.
