Vijay urged people not to decline money for votes if offered by his rivals in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls, “but vote for the ‘whistle’,” he said, pointing to his party TVK's symbol at a mega rally in Salem on Friday. Speaking in Tamil, Vijay also slammed the ruling DMK and the main opposition AIADMK, not naming them but saying he is not like “those who depend on allies”. The DMK and AIADMK are allied with national parties Congress and BJP, respectively, besides others.
Vijay, a superstar with massive fan following for his work in the Tamil movie industry, is pitching himself as an alternative to the usual see-saw politics in Tamil Nadu, which is due for polls in April-May. Earlier in the day, he questioned DMK boss and Chief Minister MK Stalin over the announcement of a ₹2,000 "summer special package" along with advance credit under the Kalaignar Women's Rights Scheme. Vijay alleged that the decision was prompted by rising support for his party among women.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay is participating in TVK party functionaries meeting in Salem on Friday (February 13, 2026).
On Friday, Mr. Vijay is scheduled to address his party functionaries belonging to five districts namely Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Arrangements have been made at the meeting venue near Seelanaickenpatti where only 5,000 functionaries are to be allowed. On behalf of TVK, identity cards with QR codes have been distributed to the participants. There is no permission for the entry of party cadres or the public at the venue. Mr. Vijay will be reaching Salem airport from Chennai and will be travelling by road for about 17 km from Salem airport to the meeting venue.
