Vengsøy traverse 2023

Описание: Hiking the Vengsøy traverse in the midnight sun.

The hike is about 1250 vertical meters and about 15 km if you include the 6,5 km (5+1,5) from the ferry port. I reccomend to go from the west to the east, as climbing up the west face of Horntind is better than decending it.

Description of the hike: The 21. of June I took the ferry out to Vengsøya and started walking the 5 kilometers to the starting point of the hike. From there I hiked up the 764 meters of Vengsøytinden which would be the highest point of the traverse. I had good weather. Just a 3 m/s breeze from the north and the clouds started dissappearing around 2 AM. The most challenging part of the trip was getting up to Horntind. It gets both steep and airy, and you need to be surefooted. I would reccomend proper shoes for the occation, and a helmet wouldn't be a bad idea either. From Horntiden you make a 50m decent, before acending up Kvantotinden. This distance was for me the most beautiful part of the the trip. The ridge is narrow, but you have enough space to feel comfortable, and you have the view of the lit up north face of Kvantotinden. From Kvantotiden you decend alongside the ridge to Stortinden, and I had to walk on ~100m of snow at first, and the distance is partly airy still. From Stortinden you can watch the ferry port, and the decent is easy but still offering good views.

The ferry arrived at 22 PM and from there I had 9 hours with the ferry leaving at 7 AM the next day. This gave me enough time to take plenty of pauses, and time to enjoy the view, the sun, eat, drink and fly the drone. I must have spent about 3 hours worth of pauses.
