Woodturning - Raku Style Bottle with Crackle Effect Paint and Metal Reactive Paint

Описание: I watched with amazement a short video on the Japanese pottery art of Raku on Dan Tarrent’s Wonky Workshop YouTube Channel.

I turned the “bottle” from a large piece of Cypress and the sphere was achieved with the help of my Paul Howard Sphere jig.

I used my Arbortech Mini Carver and my Proxxon Motorised Carver to reduce the diameter of part of the outside, giving two layers.

I used crackle effect paint on part of the outside and metal reactive effect paint (rusty iron effect reactive paint) on the other part.

Crackle effect how to: The Crackle effect is obtained through the overlaying of conflicting types of paint, typically this might be a spirit based paint as a base (background colour) and then spaying an acrylic based paint over the the top. The acrylic based paint will not want to adhere to the spirit based paint and pull away leaving gaps that create the “crackle effect”. The dryness of the base paint and how much paint you overlay will affect the finish.

The rusty iron effect is obtained through using a metal reactive paint and adding an activator over the final application whilst it is still wet.
