I'd hate to think what the average percentage of a working day is spent being productive. I know when I'm having a distracted day then that percentage can be frighteningly low. And when I'm having a good day, well it feels totally different. I feel in the zone, and tasks get smashed out all over the place.

But why do we struggle to get into that flow or zone all the time? Why can't we be flying like that every day?

Well the truth is it's not easy at all. Especially these days of working at home. It's incredibly easy to be thrown off course by the myriad distractions and alternative duties that just seem to be popping out in front of you like a game of whack a mole.

So it takes a lot of effort to squash these distractions to allow your brain to concentrate on the work that you want to do. And willpower, while it goes some way, certainly isn't the main catalyst to productivity while working. Your environment has so much to do with it. That's why it's miles easier to concentrate when working in an office, than at home.
