Bermudagrass is a warm season grass that thrives once the weather begins to heat up. Here in Texas, we have officially reached the hot part of the year and our lawns are ready to explode. Probably the biggest way you can help your lawn stand out this summer is to increase your mowing frequency. Only the top one third of the bermuda is actually green and whenever we wait too long in between mows we run the risk of leaving unsightly scalp marks in the lawn. May is also the perfect time to start really pushing your lawn with your fertilizer of choice. I’m using Flagship by Yard Mastery as my primary fertilizer this season. Another way you can help your lawn beat the heat is by applying a moisture manager product to aid the lawn in the event of a drought. It’s also an excellent time of the year to complete a leveling project. A level lawn is going to provide a more aesthetic look, and allow for a more enjoyable mow. I use mason sand on my leveling projects and the heat we’re getting this month is going to allow the grass to poke through the sand and recover more quickly. It’s also a good time of the year to aerate your lawn, because the grass is actively growing and will be able to repair itself fast. Last but not least, get down that grub control!
