Jaco Pastorius Interview (Pistoia, Italy – December 8, 1986) [Newly Found Recording]

Описание: On December 8, 1986, the Jaco Pastorius Trio played their first and only concert in Pistoia, Italy, at the Palazzetto dello Sport. After the concert, 16-year-old Jaco fan Martino Baldi interviewed him and his bandmate Biréli Lagrène at Hotel Patria for a local newspaper. It was recorded onto BASF LH-EI 60 audio cassette, which remained uncopied or digitised until last year. This is the first time it's heard by the public, save for a March 7, 2024, radio broadcast by Controradio.

Here's how Martino recounted the moment:

"... consider that it is a very very naive interview. I was 16 years old, I spoke just a few words of English and I had just started listening to "adult" music. I was crazy about Jaco for the records with WR and his mythological aura, but I knew very little about him.

However, there is a very touching moment at the end. WR had recently disbanded and I asked him who he expected masterpieces on par with the records they had played together ten years earlier, whether from Zawinul's Weather Update or Shorter's groups. And he grinned (obviously!) "Me. Hahaha". Then we all know what happened a few months later."

Jaco's wild antics extended to many of his interviews, so it's great to hear him so calm and composed. The recording goes on for another 90 seconds, in which Jaco asks Martino's name and publication, but we felt it was unnecessary to include. The tour continued the next day in Rome, wrapping up six shows later in Milan (December 17).
