In a manual transmission car, you'll typically find three foot pedals from left to right: clutch, brake, and accelerator.
The clutch pedal on the left is used when changing gears, disengaging the engine from the gearbox so you can shift smoothly without stalling.
The brake pedal in the middle hydraulically applies the brakes, slowing or stopping the vehicle. The firmer you press, the stronger the braking force.
The accelerator pedal on the right opens the throttle to increase engine RPM and speed, with more pressure producing greater acceleration. In an automatic car, there is no clutch pedal, just brake and accelerator.
Some cars also have a dead pedal, a footrest to the far left that helps stabilize the driver's left foot and prevent accidental clutch or brake engagement.
