History and Overview of the Brabham BT29 (1969)
The Brabham BT29, debuting in 1969, was created to participate in various Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships. This car was designed by Ron Tauranac, who worked with the Brabham team, founded by Jack Brabham and Teddy Mayer. The BT29 model featured improved aerodynamics and suspension, making it one of the best in its class.
The chassis construction of the Brabham BT29 was a space frame made of steel tubes, providing high rigidity and lightness. The car was equipped with different engines depending on the competition class: the Formula 2 version used a 1.6-liter Cosworth FVA engine, while the Formula 3 version had a 1.0-liter Ford Cosworth MAE engine. A 5-speed Hewland gearbox was used in the transmission, ensuring smooth gear changes and high reliability.
The suspension of the Brabham BT29 was independent on all wheels, with double wishbones at the front and rear. This design improved handling and road grip. The braking system included disc brakes on all four wheels, providing high braking efficiency.
The Brabham BT29 also stood out for its low weight, which was about 450 kg. This, combined with powerful engines and well-thought-out aerodynamics, made the car very competitive on the track. During its racing period, the BT29 showed excellent results in various championships, making it one of the most successful models of its time.
