High temperature sensor:
Monitors the temperature of the room. It alerts the Carephone Home Safety Service to potential fires by recognising when the temperature of a room either rises quickly or is very hot. Unlike smoke detectors it can be put into a kitchen.
Supports people who may be at risk in the kitchen to continue to cook safely and independently. It allows people to keep cooking and receive support if it's needed; as opposed to preventing someone from cooking.
The alarm is raised if the temperature:
reaches a pre set high temperature or above for more then 2 minutes
rises by 1°C per minute over a 30 minute period
rises by 3°C per minute over a five minute period
For example, this will alert if hot plates or gas rings are left on.
Key considerations:
Consider if the person will respond to prompts by the Carephone Home Safety Service to turn off appliances. If not, their emergency contacts must be available to go around to the property quickly.
