layers, and layers. hard & cold.
I draw hearts next to my own name, pretending she’s doing it for me.
I’ve lawyered up, fighting for custody of my inner child. every day in court is exhausting.
It’s humour to me, that I love myself so deeply. maybe that’s the mirror they see.
to love is to be fully known, understood, seen in a true form.
they only love bits of you.
your teeth, your teeth, your easy-going smile.
they love how you make them feel, not your inner core.
your iron and nickel go unloved, untouched, unseen.
remember what Jessica Katoff wrote?
“If only my heart were as cold as I pretend it is, maybe I could get over this.”
