Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand holds a virtual news conference from Mumbai, India, where she is visiting as part of a government effort to improve strained relations between the two countries.
Anand confirms she held meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and her Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Canada-India relations have been tense since the previous Liberal government’s allegations of New Delhi’s involvement in the June 2023 killing of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, B.C.
Anand faces questions from reporters on whether the two countries have plans to pursue any sort of bilateral trade agreement. Anand also comments on the Gaza ceasefire deal.
