Описание: Amersfoort is a city and municipality in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands and is situated in the Randstad. As of 1 December 2021, the municipality had a population of 158,531, making it the second-largest of the province and fifteenth-largest of the country. Amersfoort is also one of the largest Dutch railway junctions with its three stations—Amersfoort Centraal, Schothorst and Vathorst—due to its location on two of the Netherlands' main east to west and north to south railway lines. The city was used during the 1928 Summer Olympics as a venue for the modern pentathlon events. Amersfoort marked its 750th.

The visual pinnacle of Amersfoort is the Tower of Our Lady. Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren was part of a Catholic church when finished in 1470. The church was destroyed in 1787 when stored gunpowder exploded. Fortunately, the 322 foot Gothic spire survived. Adventurous tourists enjoy a panoramic view after climbing the 346 steps during a one hour tour. Interestingly, Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren was originally coordinate zero for the Dutch grid system. This is a means of measuring locations across the Netherlands. Established in 1885, the early form of GPS is also called Rijksdriehoeks or Amersfoort coordinates
