You don't need an Anthropic or OpenAI API key to use their coding agents anymore.
Ollama has released a new command, ollama launch, that allows you to swap out expensive cloud models for local, private alternatives while keeping the same agent experience.
In this video, we analyze how to set this up and the hardware reality of running these agents offline.
In this video, we cover:
1. The "Ollama Launch" Command 🚀 We explain how this new feature works. It acts as a bridge, allowing you to run Claude Code, Codex, Droid, and OpenCode using local models instead of paid APIs. You simply select your agent and your model, and the tool handles the rest.
2. The Engine: GLM 4.7 Flash 🧠 To get "Claude-level" performance locally, we look at the recommended model: GLM 4.7 Flash. We discuss why this model is the go-to choice for local coding agents and how it handles complex "chain of thought" reasoning without sending data to the cloud.
3. The Hardware Tax 💻 Local AI isn't free—it costs VRAM. We break down the requirements. While the command is simple, running GLM 4.7 requires substantial memory (approx. 19GB to 24GB VRAM) to function smoothly. We discuss if your rig can handle it.
The Verdict: Is this the ultimate money hack for developers, or will tool providers eventually block this "local bypass"?
