Clip from 141016 Mnet M! Countdown Begins, where Taeyeon and Tiffany play a word game backstage.
This clip is difficult to understand if you don’t know Korean. In the clip, Taeyeon and Tiffany are playing a word game. They are given a shortened slang phrase and then told to guess what it stands for. English equivalent would be like being given words like “ROFL” or “AFAIK” and being asked to guess what it means.
Question 1: Go-Dab-Ee (Difficulty: ***)
It is short for “goguma dabdab-i”, which is used to describe a person or a situation that is frustrating, akin to the feeling you get after eating hundred sweet potatoes and not drinking any water. (With this one, Taeyeon and Tiffany were pretty close!)
Question 2: Shap-Gi and Shum-Ni (Difficulty: ****)
Shap-Gi is short for ‘siabeoji’ (father-in-law) and Shum-Ni is short for ‘sieomeoni’ (mother-in-law).
Question 3: Yeon-So-Bok (Difficulty: *****)
Yeon-So-Bok is short for ‘yeon-aee seotun boghagsaeng’, which is used to refer to someone who is back to being a student – usually after studying overseas or going to the military – and is bad at dating. (Tiffany makes a nonsensical phrase using similar letters.)
