Are you ready for real talk about working in media? Beyond the draw of a byline, a podcast, or publishing house, this panel explores the ins and outs of the modern media industry.
Join Barnard alums working across various media lanes, along with Director, Stakeholder Relations, Stephanie Malak, for a frank discussion on the cultural and ethical challenges facing young professionals today. Learn how to thrive in an industry known for its challenging environment while maintaining your sense of self and work-life balance. Following the discussion there will be time for Q&As.
Alums in attendance will be:
Isabelia Herrera '14 is a critic and curator based in Mexico City. She previously held roles at The New York Times, Pitchfork, and Remezcla, and her writing has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, and GQ.
Kira Wilson '20 is the Awards Coordinator at the National Book Foundation. She holds a BA in Art History with a Concentration in Visual Arts from Barnard College, where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
Theo Balcomb '09 created The Daily at The New York Times in 2017. These days, she is working as an independent editor and producer on projects across the storytelling industry, including the podcast Song Exploder, The Washington Post’s investigative series The Empty Grave of Comrade Bishop, a 2024 Peabody award winner, Broken Doors, a 2022 Pulitzer finalist, and Field Trip, a 2024 duPont award nominee.
