Playthrough with Mary, using the Reptos VA. This game is included on Capcom Fighting Collection, and it marked the first time the English translated version was released on consoles -around 27 years since the arcade version was released!
This is my least liked game on this collection. The graphics are good and it has some decent music, but I don't really care for how it plays. It can get a bit confusing to what's going on sometimes, the gameplay is very fast. And of course, this was a fighting game from the mid 1990s, so naturally the CPU is hard as hell, and tends to block everything, input read everything and be no fun to fight at all.
The Reptos seems to be one of the best VAs to choose to crush the CPU with. Its QCB + heavy attack move is pretty good, several opponents will keep getting hit by this. It's crouching heavy attack is also useful due to it having a very generous hitbox. The first few opponents aren't too difficult to defeat just using these moves and the occasional super, but there are a few little tricks you can do on later opponents.
For Arieta, try to keep her at the opposite side of the screen, and then engage in some beam wars. As long as you block hers, you'll have enough time to counter it with a beam attack, so you can do this several times. Sometimes she'll dash towards you, but usually she won't do anything and even dash back, so you can just start the process again.
The above strat can also sometimes work against Chiyomaru -his VA's electrical spheres can be beaten by Reptos' beams as well, but he doesn't tend to spam them that much. If he does his charge attack, block it and then land a weak attack. This usually causes him to jump back and do a kick in the air, block this then try and uses the crouching strong attack.
Shade is pretty annoying, but he does have a habit of charging at you to attack, so as long as you block you should be in a good position to get him with a throw. If he's at the other side of the screen, keep using the QCB+HA move. You can sometimes hit him with beams, but he doesn't fall for it anywhere near as much as the last two opponents.
Jin is usually easy to beat, if he uses his drill move, just wait for him to remerge out of the ground and block him. Then get him with a throw. He has an annoying move where he can cover the entire floor with a projectile, and his super move does a lot of chip damage if blocked.
The final boss is the one I don't really have much of a plan for other than using the QCB+HA move a lot. I couldn't find a better way to beat him other than getting lucky with that move and throwing him whenever possible.
