CIRCLESPHERE is the first exhibition in Europe by American pioneer of neon art, Fred Tschida (b.1949).
It also celebrates the tenth anniversary of Neon Workshops, founded in Wakefield by artist Richard William Wheater (b. 1978) in 2010. Ten years earlier, Wheater was a student of Tschida’s in New York, where the American introduced him to the artistic possibilities of neon, something that catalysed Wheater’s life-long commitment to the alchemical properties of this alluring and technically demanding material.
CIRCLESPHERE brings Tschida and Wheater together for the first time as transatlantic collaborators, some 20 years after their first encounter, and as fellow artists united by their desire to push at the boundaries of neon as an art form.
The Art House is committed to supporting artists to explore, stretch and take risks in order to discover new things about themselves and their creative practice. We are so pleased to have enabled Richard Wheater to do just that by curating this show as a tribute to his mentor, Fred Tschida, who like The Art House, is all about the process of creativity.
