VaramahalakshmiVrata (ಶ್ರೀ ವರಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ವ್ರತ) is a festival to propitiate the Goddess Lakshmi. Varalakshmi is one who grants boons ("Vara"). It is an important pooja performed by many women in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharastra and Uttar Pradesh. The Hindu festival going by the name 'Vara MahaLakshmi Vrata' is celebrated on the Second Friday or the Friday before the day of the full moon - Poornima - in the month of Shravana, which corresponds to the Gregorian months of July–August.
On this special vocation, Zalaki's Kitchen will help you to learn easy and tasty festival food recipes. Ingredients for Special festival food recipes of Holige (Obbattu), Kosambari, Holige (Obbattu) Saaru, Mango Rice, Onion Pakoda and Kadalekalu Kootu are as follows,
Ingredients:
Holige (Obattu):
Toor Dal - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Oil
Water - 5 cup
Holige (obbattu ) saaru :
Onion - 1,chopped
Garlic - 15 pods
Cumin - 1 tbsp
Pepper - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Dried red chilli - 7
Coconut - 1/4 cup,grated
Coriander - 1/2 cup
Bele kattu
Tamarind juice - 3/4 cup
Dal stuffing - 1 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Salt - to taste
Oil - 3 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Hing - pinch
Kadlekaalu Kootu/gojju :
Sprouted chana - 1 cup
Onion - 1 chopped
Tomato - 1 chopped
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Garlic - 6 pods
Ginger - 1 inch
Cloves - 2
Cinnamon - 1 inch
Poppy seeds - 1 tbsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Coriander - 1/2 cup
Shallots - 5
Oil - 2 tbsp
Hing - pich
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Brinjal - 1,cubed
Potato - 1/2 cubed
Salt - to taste
Mango rice (mavinakaayi chitranna ) :
Grated mango - 1/2 cup
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Chana dal - 1 tbsp
Peanuts - 2 tbsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Green chilli - 5chopped
Ginger - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste-
Cooked rice - 2 cups
Coriander - 1 tbsp
Coconut - 2 tbsp
Hing - pinch
Onion Pakoda :
Besan (gram flour ) - 1 cup
Rice flour - 1 tbsp
Salt - to tast
Ajwain - 1/2 tsp
Soda - pinch
Onion - 1 sliced
Dill leaves - 1/4 cup
Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp
Chilli - 2,chopped
Curry leaves - few
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Water - as required
Oil - to deep fry
Hesarubele Kosambari :
Moon dal - 1 cup,soaked 1 hour
Cucumber - 1/2 chopped
Carrot - 1/2 grated
Green chilli - 1 chopped
Coconut - 1 tbsp,grated
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
Coriander - 1 tbsp,chopped
Salt - to taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Hing - pinch
Curry leaves - few
