An ideal pulse has perfectly sharp rising and falling edges, instant transitions, and a flat, stable top. In reality, an actual pulse shows imperfections caused by circuit bandwidth limits and parasitic elements. The rising edge has overshoot and ringing, and the top slowly droops instead of staying flat. The falling edge also shows ringing and undershoot. These effects make real pulses slower, less accurate, and dependent on the system’s response.
