The system of power-sharing used for the governance of Northern Ireland has a chequered history. Whilst the system is credited with presiding over a period of relative peace since the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, there have been periods during which Northern Ireland has been left without a government because the institutions have collapsed. Recent crises in power-sharing have sparked conversation about whether the system is fit for purpose. Some take the view that the system is outdated and in need of reform. This view, however, is not shared by everyone.
This animation summarises the findings of a deliberative forum (or mini citizens' assembly) held in Northern Ireland to learn more about the views of the Northern Ireland public on the issue of power-sharing reform. The forum was organised by Dr Sean Haughey (University of Liverpool) and Dr Jamie Pow (Queen's University Belfast) in conjunction with Ipsos MORI.
