Описание: Trainer Dale Romans thought classic winner Shackleford, starting at his home base of Churchill Downs, could give his fans something to remember in the 138th edition of the $447,000 Clark Handicap Presented by Norton Healthcare (gr. I).

Romans' idea proved well-founded. Shackleford's fans will remember him surging from the gate, seizing the lead entering the first turn, and offering a late burst when challenged in deep stretch to post a one-length victory in the 1 1/8-mile race at the Louisville oval Nov. 23.

"That's the way he's supposed to leave," Romans said after Shackleford snapped a three-race skid in his final start. "He was impressive today. That's Shack at his best... That's the way I wanted to see him end his career. I'm very proud of him. This win was for him."
