The first type of rolling stock introduced on the Guangzhou Metro and the only type in the system to be completely sourced outside of China. This was before a requirement was imposed that most parts must be built domestically (i.e. made in China).
Built by Siemens and Adtranz, they were similar to rolling stock supplied to Shanghai Metro Lines 1 and 2. A total of 21 trainsets were built and they operate exclusively on Guangzhou Metro Line 1. They are fitted with GTO-VVVF traction control system.
