The Liebestod (roughly meaning "Love-Death"), serves as the dramatic finale of Tristan und Isolde. As she sings this song, Isolde professes her love over Tristan's dead body before dying herself.
Thus, the two star-crossed lovers are, through death, finally able to be together. To emphasize this climactic moment even further, all the musical tension and ambiguity that had been building throughout the opera all the way from its beginning is ecstatically released at last (4:45).
