Today’s dive wasn’t about pulling a massive haul of trash.
After the holiday break, we wanted to get back in the water, shake the rust off, and make sure all the gear was dialed in.
So we headed offshore and dropped in on the Copenhagen shipwreck just off Fort Lauderdale.
The Copenhagen sank back in 1900 and sat above the surface for decades before being pushed fully onto the reef during World War II. Once you’re down there, you can still see large sections of the wreck scattered across the bottom, including the anchor and a small plaque with the ship’s history.
On the ride back, we came across tires from the Osborne Reef. You can tell by the hole pattern drilled into them where they came from. Tires that have coral growth stay put, but the loose ones covered in algae can roll during storms and damage the reef. Those are the ones we’ll come back for on a dedicated recovery dive.
All in all, it was a solid refresher dive and a good reset to kick off the year.
