Each year on February 23, official ceremonies are held at the Imperial Palace in observance of His Majesty the Emperor’s Birthday.
On this occasion, senior government officials arrive at the Imperial Palace in a ceremonial motorcade to offer their congratulations to Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.
At the center of these observances is the main celebratory ceremony, attended by the Prime Minister, the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, representing the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. Other Ministers of State are also in attendance.
Following the ceremony, a banquet is held at the Hōmei-den Hall of the Imperial Palace.
