Why do athletes decline in performance following an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated? Is there a curse? Or can this be explained with some simple statistics? This video focuses on the phenomenon behind the curse known as "Regression Toward the Mean."
Correction at 4:32: I use the phrase 'negative reinforcement' to describe the feedback given to the Israeli pilots. The correct term is 'punishment.' Negative reinforcement involves removing a negative stimulus in order to encourage behavior while punishment involves adding a negative change to an organism's environment after an undesirable behavior is performed.
