In this video, we establish the relationship between roots and coefficients of 3rd order polynomials. That is, if we have ax^3+bx^2+cx+d = 0, how do we express the roots alpha α, beta β, and gamma ɣ in terms of a, b, c, and d, and vice versa. We also cover the following examples:
1. If 2x^3 - 3x^2 - 5x - 1 = 0 has roots α, β and ɣ, what is the value of 1 / (αβɣ)^3.
2. If α, β and ɣ are the roots of x^3 + kx^2 + lx + m = 0, evaluate α^2+β^2+ɣ^2 and α^3+β^3+ɣ^3
