Your parents gave you birth
But your teacher gives you life
Imam Abu Hanifa said, I haven't stretched my legs out towards the house of my teacher, Hamamd whereas there were 7 streets separating both our houses. I did this out of respect for my teacher. {Imam Abu Hanifa by Imam Shami p268-269; Imam Abu Hanifa by Imam Shibli Numani, p32}
Imam Abu Yusuf (ra) said, I make dua for my teacher, Imam Abu Hanifa even before I make dua for my parents because I heard Imam Abu Hanifa saying that he makes dua for his teacher, Hammad even before he makes dua for his parents. {Imam Abu Hanifa by Imam Shami p156}
The Iraqi poet, Rassafi said,
The teacher is like a bights stars shining in societys sky, who guide the knowledge seekers to glory and greatness. Do not underestimate your indebt ness to your teacher. It equals to your parents and even more.Your wisdom comes from your teacher while your muscles and bones are from your parents.Allah has not commanded the people to learn without first making arrangement of divine teachers (the Prophets and the heavenly books).

The beloved fell ill, so I visited him

Imam Abu Yusuf was a student of Imam Abu Hanifa for a period of 29 years They became so close and were so inseparable when the Imam fell ill on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, they would still not part from each other. I was never afraid with you as a guide,
Whatever you said I would always abide,
Even after being away for so many years,
Thoughts of those days bring forth tears,
You were like a friend, never a preacher,
A million thanks to you, my beloved teacher.
Imam Haddad (ra) said, Sit with the Awliya, drink in their barakah. {Sufi Sage of Arabia, p18}
