This video shares the powerful story of Chum Mey, one of the very few survivors of S-21 (Tuol Sleng Prison) — the most notorious interrogation and torture center of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia.
From 1975 to 1979, more than 17,000 people were imprisoned at S-21. Only a handful made it out alive. Chum Mey is one of them.
In this interview, he recounts the unimaginable suffering inside the prison, the loss of his family, and the strength it took to survive. His testimony is not only a reminder of the darkest chapter in Cambodia’s history, but also a message of resilience, memory, and the importance of never forgetting.
Today, Chum Mey continues to share his story at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum so future generations can learn the truth — and ensure history never repeats itself.
If this video moved you, consider visiting Cambodia’s historical sites with respect and compassion, and supporting the preservation of survivor voices.
