The route mixes old-school engineering (tunnels and carved ledges) with peaceful alpine shoreline at Ledro — perfect for gravel bikes and adventurous road riders.

A slice of history: the Strada del Ponale was carved into the rock in the mid-19th century (built between ~1848–1851 by Giacomo Cis) as the first proper road link between the Ledro Valley and the lake; after decades of use it was eventually closed to motor traffic and later reopened as a trail for walkers and cyclists.

Cultural bonus: the Lago di Ledro area preserves Bronze-Age pile-dwelling remains (part of the “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps” UNESCO serial property) — the local museum displays reconstructions and finds from the ancient lakeshore village.
