The arrival of New Year 2026 has brought no respite from the harsh winter for the people of Bihar. The first day of the year was marked by a "Severe Cold Day" in several parts of the state, with December 31, 2025, being recorded as the coldest night of the past year. Dense fog has severely impacted visibility, disrupting rail and road traffic across the region.
While North Bihar remains gripped by icy winds and a persistent 'Cold Day' condition, South Bihar (including Patna and Gaya) may see a slight 1-2°C rise in temperature if partial sunlight breaks through the afternoon fog. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert, warning citizens of continued dense fog and shivering temperatures for the next few days.
