UPI CHARGES FROM OCTOBER 2026 | WHAT WILL REALLY CHANGE?

Описание: From 15 October 2026, a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework will apply to certain high-value UPI merchant payments. Payments up to ₹2,000 will remain outside the MDR, while eligible merchant transactions above ₹2,000 will attract 0.4% MDR, capped at ₹300.

The important part: P2P payments between individuals remain free, and the MDR is charged to the merchant rather than directly to the customer. The government has also advised banks and payment providers not to pass the charge on to customers.

For selected sectors such as railways, fuel, insurance, telecommunications and agricultural inputs, a flat ₹5 MDR applies to transactions above ₹2,000.
