WASHINGTON, D.C., USA - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrives at the White House for meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Merz will be the first European leader to meet Trump since the start of the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran.
President Donald Trump praised the US military operation in Iran and said that “just about everything’s been knocked out” when discussing Tehran’s military installations.
“They have no navy. It’s been knocked out. They have no air force. It’s been knocked out. They have no air detection, that’s been knocked out. Their radar has been knocked out. And just about everything’s been knocked out,” the president said from the White House while meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
President Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are holding a bilateral meeting at the White House on Tuesday, just days after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran.
Merz is the first world leader to meet face-to-face with Trump since the attacks. While the meeting was planned in advance, the widening conflict in the Middle East is likely to be a key topic.
Germany, the United Kingdom and France were quick to issue a joint statement Saturday urging Washington and Tehran to go back to the negotiating table over Iran’s nuclear program. On Sunday, they condemned the Iranian regime for launching “indiscriminate and disproportionate” strikes on neighboring countries.
