Описание: In this talk, Professor Eun Kyong Shin explores the impact of digital age on human connection and cognition. By interlacing her personal experience and groundbreaking research, Professor Shin examines how digital spaces, while offering unprecedented connectivity, often isolate us with algorithmic bubbles and time-absorbing tools. Highlighting the sociological and neurological ties between social networks and cognitive development, the talk delves into the paradox of the "asocial social animal”, concluding with a call to reclaim authentic human connections by urging a deliberate balance between digital and offline interactions. Eun Kyong Shin is Sociology Department Chair at Korea University. As a social scientist with a PhD in Sociology (2015, Columbia University), and who additionally trained as a postdoc at Columbia Law School and the UT Medical School, her investigations weave through multiple disciplines. Bringing unconventional data sources to various sociological investigations, the overarching goal is to gain better understanding of how relational networks and social conditions influence social behaviors, health outcomes and human development. Methodologically, she uses multiple analytical tools, including social network analysis, statistics, GIS, and machine learning. She offers Social Network Analysis course (Fall), Data Science & Sociology (Spring) and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (Spring). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
