This remarkable structure - located at Sainte Marguerite sur Mer to the west of Dieppe - is a R622 type Double Group personnel shelter with defensive Tobruk and once sat on the chalk cliffs behind but now rests on its corner on the shore.
You can get underneath the bunker and see inside it from where the foundations would have been but watch out for the tide as they can surround the bunker.
Due to erosion of the soft cliffs the bunker was deemed to be a danger to the public so fire hoses were used to undermine the structure so it slipped onto the beach. Unfortunately the exercise didn’t quite go to plan and it ended up on its side as you can see.
The bunker was just one of many shelters, casemates, and ammunition stores in a complex which still stands on the hillside behind the beach.
