Today I’m checking on a BIG collection system we installed with catch basins + French drain placed in every low point—because this property used to turn into a lake across acres during thaws.

In this video you’ll see why meltwater runs under snow, how the water naturally finds the grates, and why you don’t need to panic about things “freezing up” if the system is built right (proper slope, correct basin placement, and a smart outlet plan). This setup runs gravity-only into a 7-foot-deep dry well with overflow planned into a swale toward a detention pond—then we get hit with a fast 2-inch downpour and the system still moves a ridiculous amount of water.
