Dr. Daniel Bear is a drugs policy expert, with 20 years of experience conducting research on a variety of drug policy issues including drugs education effectiveness, medical cannabis use, police enforcement of drugs laws, and policy responses to emerging drug issues. In addition to his drugs focused work Dr. Bear has advised the UK’s Ministry of Justice on reducing violence in prisons, and served as a member of the Ontario Parole Board. Recently, Dr. Bear launched the Weed Out Misinformation to respond to the knowledge needs of young-adult cannabis consumers. This work was built in collaboration with young people, budtenders and public health experts.

Dr. Bear’s current project, Pharmacists as Cannabis Educators (PACE) is working with pharmacists to develop new cannabis education materials for pharmacists across Canada so that they can better serve cannabis consumers. In his published work for academic journals, appearances on radio, television, and in op/ed pieces, Dr. Bear breaks down the complex issues surrounding drugs in order to make sense of the very simple concepts that are often obscured when dealing with the topic of drugs.

Dr. Bear holds a Masters and PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a Professor in the Faculty of Social and Community Services at Humber Polytechnic in Toronto. He currently serves at the Director of the Humber Centre for Social Innovation.
