Bahadur Shah I struggled to control rising rebellions, and after him Jahandar Shah fell under the influence of powerful nobles, weakening the throne further. Farrukhsiyar ruled through cruelty and distrust, eventually becoming a puppet of the Sayyid Brothers, who later had him executed.
The Sayyid Brothers then placed and removed emperors at will, turning the Mughal crown into a game of power. Finally, Muhammad Shah Rangeela ascended the throne, fond of music, art, and pleasure, but too weak to save the empire. During his reign, Nadir Shah invaded and looted Delhi, shattering the remaining prestige of the Mughal dynasty.
