Welcome to Episode 4 of the Lost & Found Series. This series is part of the Lost and Found project (instagram @lostandfoundintheriver) which is produced by the Thames Festival Trust @ThamesFestivalTrust and was made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. During the project, 10 heritage trainees were given the mission of revealing untold histories of Maritime Greenwich and Deptford through ten of my mudlarking finds. In this video I meet with Isidora Bethell who chose to study a turtle rib that I found in the Thames mud a few years ago. In all probability it was dumped in the river in Georgian times - back in the 18th/early 19th century. I so enjoyed learning about the journey that this unique bone took Isidora on. Isidora Bethell's essay " Off with their Heads: Turtle to Mock Turtle, a Colonial Legacy" can be found in the Lost and Found book which you can download from the @thamesfestivaltrust website for free (see link below). You will also find the other 9 essays written by each of the trainees about their chosen mudlarking find. The book also contains the beautiful photos of the finds by photographer Hannah Smiles
