The PIA New Uniform Design Showcase 2026 brought together 10 leading Pakistani designers to present concepts for the airline's future look. Among the names reported were Maheen Khan, HSY and Nomi Ansari.

PIA has a celebrated uniform legacy. French designer Pierre Cardin's 1966 creation attracted international attention, while British royal dressmaker Sir Hardy Amies introduced uniforms inspired by Pakistani folk motifs in 1975. The previous major redesign took place in 2016, but that effort also faced mixed reactions.

The latest makeover comes as PIA operates under private management and seeks to improve its operations, restore its reputation and rebuild public and investor confidence. The debate raises a bigger question: can a fresh appearance help revive an airline's image, or must meaningful operational improvements come first?
