Is this drone worth it? Field testing the Hoverair X1 Promax
Yes, I do reviews sometimes. But it has to be a product I'm really interested in. I get several review requests on a daily basis and I've turned down every single one for over a year until this one.
That's because I really wanted to try this drone, but I didn't know enough about the brand to spend $700 on it. I'm sure there are plenty of other people who are in the exact same boat.
Sure, there are a lot of reviews out there. But when you run a review channel, it's tough to trash talk the companies who send you stuff to review. And that conflict of interest makes it hard to trust the reviews.
I don't make my living off of reviews, so I don't care if a company likes or dislikes what I have to say. So when it hit a branch and fell out of the sky, it's in the video. It's not all epic spiral shots because that wasn't my experience. The Hoverair X1 Promax is a great drone, but it has it's limitations just like any piece of gear does.
I want you to know those limitations so you can decide if you want it or not.
Therefore, this video is true to my experience. I did my best to include everything, good or bad.
Oh, and I know I will get a comment about the DJI Neo 2. I'm aware of it. It has a similar (but slightly larger) footprint than the Hoverair. It looks like it has an advantage over the Hoverair in ease of control (mainly the hand gesture positioning function) and with obstacle avoidance.
But you won't catch me with a Neo or Neo 2. Why?
Image quality.
On their base (ie - cheap) models, DJI uses smaller sensors. I owned a Mini 2 and never used it because it looked like over-sharpened iPhone 10 footage. And I'm concerned the Neo 2's 1/2" sensor just won't give a good enough image.
At 1/1.3, shooting up to 8K and even 10 bit log footage, the sensor in the Hoverair is impressive. Listen to comparison reviews and most will admit the Hoverair looks better.
Don't get me wrong, I love many DJI products. The Pocket 3 is my primary camera. The Mini 4 is....was my primary drone. I'll still use it when it makes sense. But the 4 is too big and takes too long to set up for my needs most of the time. And, I'll admit it, I'm not the best full manual drone pilot around.
The Hoverair has the best combination of size, quality image, flying reliability and ease of use that I know of. So it's perfect for me.
Anyway, the link below was provided to me by Hoverair. Yeah, it looks sketchy, but it's legit. It's just a special link to track how many people visit their site based on this video. I don't get any added incentive if you by the drone, so if you're interested but worried about the link, just go directly to their website;
