Karnataka legislative Assembly speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar moved the Supreme Court on Thursday against the apex court’s order asking him to take a decision on the resignation of 10 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs during the course of the day.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before the bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi who said the Speaker's plea will be taken up for hearing along with the main matter on Friday.

As per the SC, I will meet the legislators at 6 PM, Ramesh Kumar said in Bengaluru.

Though the court had directed Kumar to decide on the resignations during the course of the day, he clarified that there could be no timeline prescribed in the matter. He had asked some of the rebel legislators to re-submit their resignation as it was not in a prescribed manner.

Meanwhile, former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao met Kumar earlier today and pushed for the disqualification of Ramesh Jarkiholi and Mahesh Kumathalli.

A seven-time MLA, Reddy has been a minister in every Congress government in the state since the 1990s. He has been sulking ever since he was overlooked for a minister’s post in the Congress-JDS government despite having served as a home minister in the previous Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.

Reddy has blamed Siddaramaiah for keeping him out to please his own loyalists. Hailing from the Telugu-speaking Reddy community, he does not have a deep caste base in Karnataka to achieve the status of a mass leader. He is, however, a dominant figure in Bengaluru politics and is known to enjoy the support of hundreds of civil contractors in the city on account of being a former councillor.
