Tornado barrels through China's Ezhou City, kills 5 | ABS-CBN News

Описание: Two tornadoes wrought devastation in central China's Hubei province, state media said on Tuesday (July 7), killing at least eight people as winds of up to 149 kph (92.58 mph) overturned cars and ripped roofs from buildings, leaving trails of mangled metal in their wake.

Over four hours on Monday evening, gales measuring level 13 on the extended Beaufort wind force scale swept over the cities of Huangshi, Huanggang, Ezhou and Xianning, Xinhua reported, citing Hubei's emergency management authorities. At least one person was still missing, the report added.

Tornadoes are extremely rare in Hubei, a major industrial, automotive manufacturing, and technology hub, Wang Xiaoling, an expert at the provincial meteorological bureau, told Hubei Daily. The last tornado in the province was in May 2021.

Eyewitness video showed the tornado barrelling through Ezhou City.

Reuters confirmed the location from road layout, buildings and water body which matched archive and satellite images. The date of the footage was confirmed by official and media reports of the tornado.

Hubei Emergency Management wrote on Weibo that thunderstorms and strong winds occurred in several cities including Ezhou on Monday evening, with wind reaching from 17.2 to 41.4 meters per second in 53 townships.

State media, CCTV, reported on July 7 that 5 people were killed by the tornado in Ezhou overnight. No older version of the video was found posted online before July 6
