A tour of the Monocacy National Battlefield (National Park Service), the site of the Battle of Monocacy in the American Civil War fought on 9th July 1864.
Located just 40 miles from Washington DC, the Battle of Monocacy is one of those seemingly irrelevant battles which take place in all wars. In fact, this one day is very significant: Wikipedia states the result of the battle as a "Tactical Confederate victory, strategic Union victory (Early is delayed)".
In short, the one day delay created by the stubborn Union defenders effectively saved Washington from being invaded by Earley's confederate forces. Worth a passing visit if visiting Harpers Ferry, Antitam or Gettysburg.
