Story of Wu-Tang Clan Affiliate’s Recovery from Brain Aneurysm Score Big Win as Film Threat Celebrates the Best of Indie Filmmaking at Live Drive-In Event & Virtual Ceremony

(Los Angeles, CA – April 22, 2021) -- In true underdog fashion, scrappy indie documentary feature Risen: The Story of Chron “Hell Razah” Smith took home Best Music Documentary at Film Threat’s AwardThis! Ceremony on Sunday, April 10 (winners were announced on the 18th). Up against big-name documentaries about Creem Magazine, Disneyland, Frank Zappa, and more, Risen scored the prestigious award in an event where nominees were selected from the nearly 2,000 indie films reviewed on Film Threat in 2020.

“This is huge for us,” gushed Director Frank Meyer, who attended in person and accepted the award at the Covid-19 safe live drive-in event with Risen Producer Robert Juster of Digital Reacharound. “I had a subscription of Film Threat Magazine when I was in college in the ‘90s, and that was how got hip to indie films and genre pictures, so for us to win this award is really an honor.”

“It was an honor and a privilege to tell Razah’s story,” said Juster. “We share this award with him, the entire Wu-Tang Clan family, and everyone who has been part of his recovery.”

Risen: The Story of Chron “Hell Razah” Smith is a documentary feature film about acclaimed rapper Hell Razah and his battle to recover from a life-altering brain aneurysm was released on March 19, 2020, via Indie Rights. The film is available now on IMDBtv, Amazon, Tubi, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and Apple TV for streaming and download. Hell Razah was discovered at age 14 by Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA and was a founding member of the group Sunz of Man before going on to a successful solo career. Meyer was Sunz of Man’s publicist in 1997, and later filmed Razah for the G4TV web series Freestyle 101. This film is the result of 7 years of filming and over 20 years of friendship. Risen was also named Best Music Documentary at New York’s People’s Film Festival, Best Documentary at Hollywood Verge Film Festival, and was named an Official Selection by Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, Los Angeles Cinefest and International Independent Film Awards.
