On May 19, 2021, a juvenile green sea turtle (#21-2640) was rescued from Buttonwood Bay near Everglades City after it was found floating without the ability to dive down under the water.
Upon admission, veterinarians found the patient to be quiet with mild head tremors and an obvious shell deformity. They suspect the head tremors to be caused by red tide and the rounding of the back to be a birth defect it has had its whole life.
The turtle was given fluids, antibiotics, and a lipid emulsion. After a few days, the tremors improved, and it was able to go into a tank with shallow water. The turtle continued to improve and was recently released back to its watery home!
