This little cluster of Buxus came as a bonus 'extra' when Dan bid for another larger material tree at the Bristol Bonsai Society annual auction a couple of years ago. It was not an obvious piece of material that most bonsai enthusiasts would select but he thought it would be perfect for this “Something from nothing” series of videos.
In this video you will see how Dan has chosen to prune out all unwanted ‘trunks’ and branches to enable him to arrange the cluster into a charming small (chuhin) size potential bonsai. He’s made it obvious that this is only Day One in the life of the tree as a bonsai. It will take a few more years before he will make it into an exhibitable small specimen bonsai. The drawing at the end of the video will give an approximation of how Dan sees the finished tree/s — still much to do he says.
