Today, July 24, is the birthday of Robert Eugene Shook. He died in the 2021 Rock Hill shooting. Robert was a hard-working man and father of 3 who put himself through school to become a HVAC technician and provide for his family.
Robert was airlifted to a local hospital after the shooting with hopes that he would be the one survivor of the attack. Robert was a dedicated husband and family man who enjoyed fishing and cooking. His phone call and crime scene account helped first responders deal with the developing scene.
The shooter was a neighbor of the homeowners, a former NFL player who had recently moved back in with his parents. His mental health had been in significant decline over the past several years, but he remained in possession of his guns. He killed 6, 4 members of the family residing in the home plus 2 workers on site including Robert. He then turned the gun on himself. Red flag laws could have made a difference.
